The rewards of a successful international adoption can be endless, but the challenge of attaining those rewards can seem daunting. In addition, the Chair of our International Adoption Practice Group, Michael A. Pane, Jr. has internationally adopted his own children and personally handled the legal aspects for both the adoption and immigration of his children. Mr. Pane’s background in international business practice as well as personal experience gives him the insight necessary to conduct not only the standard legal immigration procedures, but also to coach you through the vulnerabilities and risks associated with the international adoption process.

There are many necessary steps that must be completed to successfully adopt a foreign child. We can help guide you through this process by acting as your liaison between the U.S. Immigration Office, the foreign consulate, the foreign adoption agency, and the foreign lawyer representing the foreign adoption agency. Services to be completed domestically can include obtaining a IR-3 or IR-4 Visa for the child, completing re-adoption after the child arrives in the US, arranging the issuance of a New Jersey birth certificate after the adoption process is completed, and arranging the New Jersey Judgment of Adoption. Also, we can help guide you through the procedures of a home study to ensure your successful approval for adoption from the state and federal governments. On an international scale, will help you process and arrange the relinquishment of custody of foreign parents (if necessary), guide you through the local adoption process in the child’s nation, and assist you with arrangements for the international travel that will be necessary to complete the adoption of your child.
