James M. Andrews
Jim Andrews focuses his practice in the areas of corporate/commercial litigation, environmental law, matrimonial law and product liability defense. He has tried over seventy significant corporate/commercial cases to conclusion in both federal and state courts and has been recognized for his work in legal malpractice cases and attorney ethics.
An accomplished litigator, Mr. Andrews has appeared before the New Jersey Supreme Court on three occasions, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First, Second and Third Circuits on three occasions. Jim has received the highest possible rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been designated as a Super Lawyer for 2005-2009.
Developed a dramatically new approach for corporate clients faced with environmental cost recovery, natural resource damage and penalty claims. Clients enter into contracts with non-profit conservation organizations to rehabilitate previously contaminated property. The client is responsible for enforcing its contract with the non-profit conservation organization, but not required to guarantee successful completion of the project itself.
Obtained settlement of environmental insurance claim against foreign insurance carriers.
Successfully pursued claims against insolvent insurance carriers in bankruptcy scheme in UK.
Represented plaintiffs and defendants in several medical and legal malpractice cases.
Represented property owner in redevelopment negotiations with township.
Represented plaintiffs and defendants in environmental claims brought under CERCLA, NJ Spill Act and other regulatory schemes.
Mr. Andrews has handled over 400 matrimonial cases including:
Mediated divorces to conclusion avoiding costly litigation.
Evaluated trader's position in a hedge fund where there was huge disparity in the parties' positions.
Represented a member of a rock band involving evaluation of the client's rights in music and plays.
Created a guardianship agreement whereby members of a family took custody of a sibling's children.
Pursued enforcement of child custody and support agreements in foreign countries including Cyprus, Lebanon and Israel.
Represented plaintiffs and defendants in domestic violence matters involving incarceration.
Represented mothers and fathers whose children were kidnapped by the other spouse involving China, Argentina, Israel and the United States.
Negotiated and prepared prenuptial and intermarital agreements - including novel provisions to ensure enforceability.
